  • by

Allison Miller is a painter from Tucson, Arizona. She studied Sociology and Africana Studies at CUNY Brooklyn College, graduating in 2008. She learned to paint from her father and followed in his footsteps as a second generation muralist. In 2010, she founded the arts organization, Alley Cat Murals, which facilitates opportunities for muralists who are committed to restoring and revitalizing public spaces in the Tucson community.

Allison’s personal artistic intent is to create paintings that celebrate diversity and serve as restitution for the underrepresented. Her most recent collection of paintings aim to retell stories from media made throughout the 20th century that impacted the development of her Black consciousness. By reframing context, she works to honor the many ways of being Black in America. She references imagery from historical media to explore new themes of identity, permission, resistance, and attempts to transform racial trauma into Black Joy.
